BLOG 10:  My last day at WLE

On my last day the kid I was mentoring was absent so I just spent the day with the other kids and be a teacher assistant. Basically I did little tasks like grading and making copies but I also made sure there wasn't any fights between the kids at recess and lunch because sometimes things get hectic. One thing I learned about myself is that I really like working kids well I really like helping people or making them smile or laugh because I love the feeling of accomplishment. One thing I can take away from workplace is to stay focused and determine why you are there and what you want to be while you are there because i wanted to be a mentor to the kids but I ended up being more of a friend. I started my project late so it didn't turn out how I wanted it to but I think I am pretty much done with and I have all my hours I believe. I don't think I will need to return to my WLE but I will return not doing school hours just to visit them.

POST 9: Description of my workplace

At my internship I go to the office and talk to my mentor, tell her how my day went. She is a vice principal so she has her own office and it's not small but its not big either. From their I proceed to room 25 where there are sixth graders and I help them with any work they need help with. I keep my on four students so that I can have some data for my project because I realized if I just watch one student and mentor one student then i wouldn't have much data to go off of. Since I work at a school there are more students than staff but there is a lot of staff because the school is two stories and really big you would think it was a high school not an elementary. It's a school so their are teachers that are assigned a room and they teach student. The office staff works in the office taking care of things like attendance and other things. My workplace is located in Hayward,Ca on B st.

Intro Post: How I got my WLE: Oct 26th.

To make a long story short I got my internship because I was a previous worker. I use communicating effectively by calling and meeting up with my old mentor so that I can get another internship with her. My Mentor is Ms. Reveles, I will be working at burbank elementary in hayward, ca and I will be helping below average kids improve them learning skills.

My workplace serves students that range from kindergarten to sixth grade. They benefit from education from my workplace because it is a elementary school.
The strengths of my workplace is their test scores. They have improved, in fact they just had an award ceremony for their students congratulating them on their work.
The weaknesses of my workplace is... well their really isn't any weaknesses because even for the students that are not moving at the same pace as other students, they have these intervention classes to help them keep. So I don't really see where my workplace needs any area of growth at this moment.

POST 4: Friday Dec. 10th, Leadership Skills

Recently the leadership skills that i have been showing at my workplace is collaborate productively and communicate powerfully. By communicating with the students I have made a great connection with them and by collaborating with them and showing them that I am not a teacher, I am not her to get you in trouble but I won't stand by and just let you mess up let me earn their respect and trust.
At my workplace the one skill that I am developing is thinking critically because i really have to watch what I say because I don't want to sound ignorant or extremely vulgar but I'm working on it. I am able to control myself and when I get into certain situations I have to think about what can I do or say to make this situation easir on me.
The leadership skills that I am using at my workplace that I learned from school is collaborate productively and communicate powerfully.
My role as a student is slightly different from my role at my workplace because I am no longer a student but I am not an adult with that being said I relate more to the students at the school but since I am not a student I don't suffer the same consequences as a student at the school. I also get special privaleges like being able to listen to my iPod or walk out of a classroom when at my school I am not allowed to do that.
